About Twitchy
History
I was born and raised on the banks of the beautiful Hawkesbury River in the mid 1950’s. My father had a farm at Freemans Reach on the eastern end of the infamous “Breakaway” where I caught my first fish, a mullet at the age of 4 years. Home was approximately 4kms from Windsor and I walked to and from school each day. My mother used to make me up some dough each day and I spent every afternoon fishing the banks of the river til dark. In those days the river was pristine, the water crystal clear and the sands the purest white.
I fished most of my life with my father and he taught me just about everything he possibly could until his passing when I was 20 years old.
The family moved from the farm to South Windsor in 1961 after the farm was wiped out by floods from 1956 – 1961, many of which were very powerful and destructive.
I fished the Hawkesbury right through my whole life everywhere from the heads at Lion Island to the dam wall at Warragamba and all of its many tributaries, such as Macdonald, Colo and Grose Rivers and the many creeks including the local ones around Windsor and Richmond.
In that time I have caught many species such as Bream, Flathead, Tailor, Jewfish, Salmon and Bonito and the majority of the freshwater species including mullet, catfish, herring, trout and perch which are now commonly known as Australian Bass.
I have been a member of a number of fishing clubs over the years and in 1997 joined the Hawkesbury Nepean Bass Anglers Association (HNBAA) and was immediately “hooked” on catching and releasing the Mighty Bass. Since joining the HNBAA I have made many good friends and fished every chance I could get. I competed in most of the major Bass competitions, including the Bass Classic, Walker’s Beach, Southern Bass at Lake Urunga, and of course the Hawkesbury Nepean Interclub Challenge.

In 2000/2001I became President of HNBAA and won Champion Angler of the club in 2001 and won the Interclub Challenge in 2002 where I took home 4 trophies for Largest Bass, Champion Angler, Champion Team and Champion 3 Boat Team.
I have fished many of the Dams in NSW including Glenbawn, St Claire, Windemere, Lostok, Lyall and Urunga and developed a keen interest in restocking fish into these areas, participating in many releases into most of these waterways and the Penrith Lakes Scheme.

In 2006 I caught my MONSTER BASS measuring a massive 453mm which earned me a spot in the Clubs 400 Club and won me the Biggest Bass of the Year Trophy. She was caught at the Terraces at North Richmond at 8.30pm. I first thought I had hooked a flathead from the mighty head shakes and didn’t catch sight of her until she became too tired to fight anymore.
As you have probably guessed by now I am “HOOKED” on Bass fishing and have spent hundreds of night sessions fishing the River between Windsor and North Richmond Bridges, having caught and released thousands of bass ranging from 25mm to 400mm + monsters.
In 2008 I became ill and was unable to work and couldn’t do my beloved fishing. In that time whilst lying in bed dreaming of getting out on the water I thought that maybe I could put talents into something that I love doing, so after a great deal of research and a bonus Stimulus package from Mr Rudd, I decided to start a new business in Lure making and thus TWITCHY LURES was born. (Thanks in part to my long suffering wife and family).
I now spend most of my time in the workshop designing, shaping, sanding, painting and producing my lures. In October this year, I spent two weeks on the Mid North Coast testing and proving, catching many species on my Lures including Bream, Flathead, Whiting, Tailor and EP’s (Estuary Perch).
So, if you are around this way out on the water you will probably see me, come over and say Hi and have a chat.
See you on the water,
Pete
